GS is me, Gloria Smith. My journey into the world of software began with a broken typewriter while working as a medical secretary for a very cool doctor. Within a couple of hours, a desktop computer was on my desk along with a promise of “gold card support” that was really a phone in, leave a message, and I’ll get back to you when I figure it out” program. But it led to an amazing adventure. I did have manuals piled up on my desk and I thought, “I can read!” and discovered that I could not only understand the concepts but I could also apply them for my job.
The next stop was an opportunity to provide software training at a local Business College helping folks between the ages of 18 and 55 learn the skills needed in order to move into a new career. The design of training programs and courses along with the development of help documents, tips & tricks, manuals and more followed. I was hooked on learning and sharing software skills that would make work more productive, easier and yes, fun!
Since then I’ve ventured into working successfully for a myriad of business sizes and types from very small to very large enterprise organizations spanning education, healthcare, manufacturing, distribution, call centers, and a company who developed and distributed online software. Additionally, I’ve also continued my software training efforts both designing, delivering of new courses and providing support beyond the standard Microsoft programs but my initial venture into using Excel, PowerPoint and Word have remained ingrained.
For my current series of Software Courses, I literally took time to carefully review what topics, after all these years of intensive use, were really used in the working world? The result was very interesting. Traditional courses cover a lot of material but as I compared what the curriculums included to what I had actually needed on the job, it became apparent that the usual introductory and intermediate courses could, and should be, combined into one much more productive course. My “All-in-One GS Courses” had arrived.
Then, onto the next step asking what should come next? And the answer was that once the “basics”, the “All-in-One” skills were established, learning in a more focused way would provide Advanced level, power-skills. Along with this, a review of actual jobs and which computer skills were required followed resulting in my GS Course Selection by Job Type Map designed to help those looking at gaining new skills, a new job or a career switch easier.
So, I hope you will consider joining me and will sign-up for my program of Instructor-led Online Courses (via Zoom) which will fast-track your career journey. My Course Calendar can help guide you to a scheduled course but I’m also very flexible and can easily book a time that works best for you – reach out any time.
Thanks so much for visiting. Questions are always welcome.
